Evaluation

26/10/2009 - 8:44 pm

When I started this project, I had a word with Mike explaining that I already had my own portfolio website. So we agreed that it would be okay to create and design my girlfriends website for her photography work. I really liked this because I had the go between Debbie and myself so it felt like working for a ‘real’ client instead of just going by my own thoughts and opinions.

After some initial planning with Debbie, I found out that she wanted a simplistic approach so that her photographs are the main focus of the website. I feel as though I have a achieved this because my planning for the grid system stays constant throughout the all of the website.

I really enjoyed this project despite of my previous knowledge of web design because I learnt more about using Fireworks.

Overall, Debbie and myself are really pleased with the outcome of the website because it is exactly what she wanted and easy for her (who has no web design knowledge) to update it.

I felt as though my feedback, generally, was quite positive with only a few points to change. These include a stylised scroll bar and reworking of the portrait images to allow the users to see the full image without the use of the scroll bar.

Forward slashes “were a mistake”

Here is an interesting article I found on the Daily Mails website today entitled, Sir Tim Berners-Lee admits the forward slashes in every web address ‘were a mistake’. Here is a screenshot of said article.

Debbie Cable Photography – Wireframes

06/10/2009 - 2:32 am

Here are my wireframes for my website layouts. I found this exercise to be very useful because I can see how this can save time, say if a client hadn’t supplied you with the content, you can just use basic shapes and get the job done.

PHP and MySQL

04/10/2009 - 6:05 pm

Although I have used both PHP and MySQL in the past, I just thought I’d publish a quick post showing the book where I learnt most of my knowledge when it comes to PHP and MySQL.

Website Flow Chart

02/10/2009 - 11:40 pm

Here is the flow chart for Debbie’s website. I feel as though it is very straight forward and it shows how everything links back to one another. In other words, all the pages link back to one another.

New and Improved Tea Flow Chart

01/10/2009 - 9:42 pm

After my critique about the tea flow chart, I realised it wasn’t as clear as it could be. I decided to start over and give it another go. This time round, I have used rectangles and diamonds to illustrate it. The rectangles are statements and the diamonds are questions.

Tea Flow Chart

23/09/2009 - 3:18 pm

For my first task I was required to produce was a flow chart on how to make a cup of tea. Instead of using words, I decided to use pictograms. This was heavily influenced from my web design research because these days when designs use mainly pictograms. Here are some common pictograms found on the Internet… Continue reading

Flow chart research

22/09/2009 - 7:55 pm

As part of the tea flowchart exercise, I decided to do a little research into that area. I looked at the book ‘Data Flow – Visualising Information in Graphic Design. Although these are more visual statistics, I still feel they show some relevance to the brief.
